About Us

SAAD is a word derived from the Marathi literature which means “Call” – a small team of Seven members started “SAAD” in the year 1986 with a aim of promoting adventure & exploring unknown territories, from there Saad has now, become a large family of 800 members spread throughout India (which comprises of Life Members & Yearly Members).

In the year 1986, Seven Members, Prema Iyer, Rajan Deshmukh, Meena Rumde, Naresh Shingrupe, Amita Chavan, Nana Patade, Ashok Gaikwad, came together and started trekking in the Sahyadris. After exploring the Sahyadris, the idea of going to Himalayas came to their minds and in October 1986, Rajan led the first Himalayan Trek to Annapurna Base Camp & Muktinath in Nepal Himalayas, wherein 18 members participated, this was a grand success and since then there has been no looking back. In September 1987, another Himalayan trek was organized to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Dodithal, Hemkund in Garhwal Himalayas, and 24 members participated. Now, from seven members, the group had grown to a larger one and when many heads come together more ideas are formed. It was decided that it will be better if we can form a proper club to instill this adventure spirit in others also.

Thus, SAAD MOUNTAINEERS was formed and was registered under Public Trust Act, on 13thJanuary 1988. It has been always a team work, and this tradition is continued even after 3 decades of formation of SAAD. The Club’s activities have been quite impressive and have been continuously undertaking various adventure activities. Saad has till date conducted 37 Himalayan High Altitude Treks, 15 Treks for School Children / Family, 40+ Treks for Beginners wherein members from the age of 6 years to 77 years have participated, 32 Mountaineering Expeditions, 33 Adventure Camps for school & college children.

About 75 Members have completed the Basic Mountaineering, 26 Members have done Advance Course, Five Members Search & Rescue Course and Seven Members have completed Methods of Instruction Course, conducted by Government recognised Institutes. Apart from regular activities in Himalayas, we are also active in Sahyadris, climbers from Saad have scaled pinnacles like, Lingana, Ganesh, Hadbichi Shendi & many more. Besides trekking & mountaineering activities, we at SAAD are also largely involved in the social activities like conducting blood donations camps, tree plantation in the Sahyadri range & visiting tribal villages in remote Maharashtra (for eg. Melghat near Akola, Jawahar-Mokhada, (80 ms from Kalyan),Shahapur (Near Asangaon) and distribute useful items like utensils, clothes, ration/food items for the families, medicines etc. We have been organizing these activities regularly.
